There are holiday areas in a great many countries of the world, from the beaches of southern Europe to the spectacular landscapes of New Zealand, but surely no destination is quite like Florida. The Sunshine State has been opening its doors to visitors for several decades now, and it has become particularly synonymous with family vacations.

The reason Florida became a holiday region in the first place is of course the wonderful climate. Even in the winter months the weather is more than bearable, and in the summer it?s hot and almost always sunny. The fact that some of the world?s most exciting theme parks and tourist attractions have sprung up over the years has merely sealed the deal.

Most overseas tourists choose to hire a car when they visit Florida, and this is always a good option. Driving on unfamiliar roads can be a little stressful in some parts of the world, but the truth is that in Florida it?s an absolute pleasure. In the main, local road users are extremely courteous and, to everyone?s relief, very understanding about the number of occasionally confused vacationers they share the tarmac with.

The signs are good

Needless to say, it can be a little confusing when trying to get from A to B in any new location, but the roads in Florida are very well sign-posted. And the main theme parks are clearly indicated on signs all over the state, so there is relatively little chance of you getting lost when trying to make your way to one of Mickey Mouse?s favourite haunts.

Car rental is relatively inexpensive in Florida, especially if you choose to book it in advance. By doing this on the web, you can find some exceptional deals long before you ever leave home, and it can all be done in a matter of minutes. It?s reassuring to know that, as you fly out on the first leg of your vacation, a modern, comfortable car will be waiting for you at the airport when you touch down.

There is one issue that needs to borne in mind, however, and it?s one that can have serious repercussions for those who don?t listen to sensible advice. There are some areas which should be avoided, especially at night, because they can be dangerous for unsuspecting tourists. The best option is to do a little investigation on the Internet before you travel, and to listen to any available information from the car rental specialists and the local authorities.
