DreamWorks Animation (DWA) to Receive Sir Charles Wheatstone Award from International 3D Society February 6, 2013
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. ? The International 3D Society will present DreamWorks Animation (DWA) with its 2013 Sir Charles Wheatstone Award for advocacy, technology and professional education, it was announced today in Hollywood. The award will be presented at the Society?s 4th Annual Creative Arts Awards black tie dinner at the Beverly Hills Hotel on February 6, 2013.
?The Society?s core mission is to encourage 3D adoption across the ecosystem ? and both educating the global community and leading by example through the release of impactful 3D consumer content ? are steps critical to achieving this goal,? said Tom Cosgrove, Co-Chairman of the International 3D Society and President and CEO of 3net and 3net Studios. ?DreamWorks Animation (DWA) has been at the forefront on both of these fronts, representing two significant achievements that are worthy of our recognition.?

Director Ang Lee, whose 3D movie ?Life of Pi? has received worldwide critical acclaim, will also be honored with the Society? Harold Lloyd Award for filmmaking.
The Society?s Creative Arts Awards annually bestow the Lumiere? statuette to 3D movies, television programs, videogames and advertising, as selected by the Society?s voting membership.
?Sir Charles Wheatstone is credited by history as the inventor of modern-day 3D. Although he lived and worked in the 19th century, his legacy of educating professionals about 3D remains an important function of the Society today,? said Society Awards Committee Chairman, Buzz Hays of The True Image Company. ?In honoring DreamWorks Animation and Ang Lee, we have an opportunity to shine the spotlight on the incredible contributions these people have made to filmmaking, and to storytelling in 3D,? he added.
The awards dinner presentation will utilize XPAND 3D technology and eyewear during the ceremony.
