Review & Giveaway: Master Lock Door Security Bar

One of the worst features to have in your home during a zombie apocalypse? A sliding door, followed closely by large bay windows.

I kid about the zombie apocalypse, but not about the security flaw that sliding glass door can be. It's very easy to break into a home through a set of siding doors or extra large sliding bay windows. How do I know? It took my DH just a few moments to break into our house through ours one day when he forgot his keys! Can you imagine how quickly a talented thief could do it then? I don't even want to think about it!

Master Lock makes a Door Security Bar that adjusts to fit most sliding and hinged doors. This bar helps your home resist forced entry through doors and sliding patio doors - or even big bay windows. Whether you're looking for an entry layer of security for your home while you're on vacation, peace of mind that it won't be so easy for an intruder to break in while you're sleeping, or yes, that the zombie horde won't slide your patio door open, the Master Lock Door Security Bar can help.

We received one to try out in our home. DH and I both loved that it had a dual use for us - we could use it at just about any entryway thanks to being made for both hinged and sliding doors to help keep our home secure. The bar length is easily adjusted and goes from 27-1/2" to 42" - it basically fit every door in our home, plus the bay windows! It's made with rugged 20 gauge steel construction, so I know it won't easily bend if the door is being forced by an intruder. Here it is in the side bay window:

To use on a hinged door, there's a yoke piece that you place under the doorknob. The pivoting ball joint assures full contact with floor - so it fits at the perfect angle. Because we mostly have wooden floors, I was a little worried it could scratch them, but the padded foot provides sure grip without scratching the surface. It's easy to place in and remove again, so even if you have a high use door, it takes but a few seconds to put it back into place. I really wish I'd have something like this in college! I'm really pleased with the extra layer of security it gives me - if someone should manage to thwart this, if it falls to the floor it is going to make a ton of noise thanks to the steel, and that should give me a head's up and a few extra seconds to dial 9-1-1 and pull out security layer #2.

The Master Lock Door Security Bar has a suggested retail price of $25.70, and you can purchase it at home improvement stores like Lowe's, as well as online through sites like Amazon.
